Bangkok law enforcement agencies have initiated a sweeping crackdown across major nightlife and commercial districts, targeting entertainment venues operating with foreign nominee owners and undocumented workers. The operation, coordinated by the Metropolitan Police Bureau and immigration officers, reflects growing efforts to enforce labor laws and curb illegal foreign business operations within the capital.
In recent weeks, multi-agency inspection teams conducted surprise checks on night clubs, pubs, and massage parlors across key areas such as Huai Khwang, Sukhumvit, and RCA. The raids resulted in multiple arrests involving foreign nationals working without valid work permits, as well as Thai nationals acting as legal fronts for foreign business owners operating without proper commercial authorization.
Curbing Illegal Nominee Structures
Thai law strictly limits foreign ownership in specific service and entertainment sectors. Under the Foreign Business Act, foreign individuals cannot hold majority control in certain service businesses without specialized permits. Authorities revealed that several high-end venues in Bangkok were found using Thai “nominees” to bypass ownership restrictions and tax obligations.
Police officials emphasized that the campaign targets not only venue owners but also real estate holders and accountants who facilitate foreign illegal setups. Businesses found in violation face heavy fines, immediate closure orders, and asset freezes, while foreign operators face deportation and blacklisting.

While some local business associations expressed concern regarding the short-term impact on nightlife tourism, government officials maintained that regulatory compliance is essential for sustaining a safe, transparent, and high-quality tourism environment. Legitimate operators and law-abiding tourists are encouraged to carry proper identification, while venues must ensure all employee documentation is fully up to date.
